SO IT BEGINS…

The story of Renegade & Longton begins on the Isle of Skye where Brendan’s eccentric younger brother had concocted a traditional elderflower sparkling wine. Brendan was convinced he had tasted the future and his passions were ignited – though Ewan had no interest, so stayed on the island building boats…

WITH A BANG…

That left Brendan to experiment with the champagne method in his living room, to perfect the original recipe and to see what else could be made without grapes. After one too many explosions he paired up with Richard who had a handy garden shed – as well as 30 years’ experience making wine.

WITH A BANG…

That left Brendan to experiment with the champagne method in his living room, to perfect the original recipe and to see what else could be made without grapes. After one too many explosions he paired up with Richard who had a handy garden shed – as well as 30 years’ experience making wine.

AND THEN THERE WERE TWO…

From their experiments two wines emerged – a timeless sparkling elderflower and a fresh elderflower blush (rhubarb, strawberries and blackberries added at the fermentation stage).

MOVING ON DOWN…

So with two recipes now refined, Brendan the Renegade left his safe, city job to focus on his dreams full time. Wine production was moved from Richard’s shed on Longton avenue to a commercial winery near Hastings.

TO BIGGER & BETTER THINGS…

Renegade & Longton continue to be inspired by the era when Champagne and sparkling wines were first popularised, where batches were produced using ingredients foraged in the hedgerows to complement the grapes. We use the traditional champagne method to produce wines that are dry, and counterpoint the natural flavours of the fruit. We are driven by the pursuit of new flavours and combinations, and can’t wait to share our next generation of sparkling blends.

STICKLER FOR TRADITIONS

Always a stickler for traditions, we recommend that our sparkling wines are served chilled in a glass. We also find our wines work best when correctly paired – our blush works wonderfully alongside sweeter, fattier dishes while our classic sparkling elderflower goes best with more delicate or salty flavours. But we don’t want to dictate how you drink our wares – so if you like it with kippers, who are we to judge!

“Sparkling wine can help improve your memory
if you have between one and three glasses a week,
we just can’t remember where we read it”
